What is Dog Hydrotherapy?

Water-based rehabilitation therapy for dogs and cats

Hydrotherapy uses the therapeutic properties of water — buoyancy, resistance, and warmth — to support muscle strengthening, joint mobility and pain relief without the impact of land-based exercise. It is clinically proven for post-surgical recovery, arthritis, neurological conditions, and mobility decline.

At RehabVet, we operate both a salt water hydrotherapy pool (not chlorinated — gentler on skin and mucous membranes) and an underwater treadmill (hydro treadmill), allowing our therapists to prescribe the right modality for your pet's specific condition.

How a hydrotherapy session works

Assessment
Your pet is assessed for suitability. Therapist reviews history, gait, and condition.

Preparation
Your pet is introduced to the water environment calmly, at their own pace. No force, no rush.

Treatment
Guided exercise in the pool or treadmill. The therapist controls depth, speed, and duration for therapeutic benefit.

Cool-down & Review
Post-session assessment. Progress notes recorded. Home exercise advice given if applicable.
